The European Commission is preparing an interpretative guidance note on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Although still unofficial and likely to evolve, this draft version should clarify the obligations applicable to food packaging, particularly with regard to PFAS, single-use plastics and recycled content.
The future guide, scheduled for official publication in the first quarter of 2026, will detail operators' responsibilities, distinguishing between the roles of "manufacturer" and "producer".
