In the absence of a specific regulatory text, the DGCCRF has drawn up sheets for the various types of materials, intended primarily for official control services and laboratories. These sheets specify the criteria and procedures for verifying the suitability of these materials for food contact, and more specifically the procedures for verifying the inertness principle of Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 27, 2004.

.

These sheets are the subject of upstream consultation with representatives of stakeholders (laboratories competent in the field of materials in contact with foodstuffs, manufacturers and processors of materials, food industries, distributors...).

Their publication on the DGCCRF website provides operators with transparent information on certain criteria and procedures that will be used by its services as part of official controls.

This specific DGCCRF sheet gives recommendations for ensuring the food contact suitability of glass, crystal, glass-ceramics and enamelled objects, as well as additional specifications for ceramics, over and above the regulatory requirements of the European Union.
