This decree, issued after consultation with the Conseil supérieur d'hygiène publique de France and the Académie nationale de médecine, lists the metals, alloys and other materials such as wood (Essences) authorized for use in the manufacture of measuring instruments and measuring containers which come into direct contact with foodstuffs. In addition, it specifies the conditions required for the use of plastics or other varnished or coated materials in contact with foodstuffs, which are now largely covered by European Union regulations. The composition and purity specifications for aluminum and aluminum alloys set out in this decree were updated by the decree of 08/27/1987. The provisions of this decree relating to glass and wood were extended to containers intended for the storage and conservation of beverages and foodstuffs by the circular letter of 28/10/1980.
