Resolution on the safety and quality of materials and articles for food contact

Resolution CM/Res(2020)9, its guiding principles and additional technical guides contribute to the protection of human health by ensuring the safety and quality of food contact materials and articles as defined in Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004, which are not covered by important specific legal provisions or other measures at European Union (EU) level. The resolution therefore complements existing European legislation. This annex provides general guidance, e.g. on the use of substances in the manufacture of food contact materials and articles, labeling and the need for a declaration of conformity and supporting compliance documents. It applies to all materials and articles in contact with food falling within the scope of the resolution, and to the closure system for medicinal product containers in cases deemed appropriate by the competent authority responsible for granting their marketing authorization. Complementary technical guides detail specific implementation provisions and additional restrictions applicable to materials and articles falling within their scope.
