Research & Development

On June 4, 2025, the ANR TWINLOOP project officially got underway at a kick-off meeting held on the Agro Paris-Saclay campus.

Coordinated by INRAE, this ambitious project brings together 19 academic and industrial partners around a common goal: to structure a scientific and systemic approach to the circular economy applied to plastic food packaging.

TWINLOOP aims to:

  • Develop tools for risk analysis, classification and assessment
  • Optimize recycling processes and propose pilot industrial solutions
  • Develop a methodological guide for manufacturers and authorities

The project is structured into 5 complementary workpackages, covering:

  • WP1: Sample collection and creation of a chemical signal library - ONIRIS and LNE
  • WP2: Classification of materials via chemometrics and artificial intelligence - INRAE and Université de Rouen
  • WP3: Toxicological assessment and safety of materials - INERIS
  • WP4: Development of pilot-scale technological solutions - CTCPA
  • WP5: Structuring, communication and dissemination - ANIA

The plays a key role in the project, notably by being involved in:

  • The WP1, for the development of analytical methods and the creation of a library of reference chemical signals
  • .
  • The WP2, for the analysis of complex data (chemometrics, AI) applied to materials classification
  • .
  • The WP3, in connection with regulatory complianceand risk assessment
  • And more broadly in guide writing and industrial transfer (WP4)

With its expertise in , LNE is actively contributing to the scientific reliability and robustness of the project results.

Stay tuned to follow the project's progress over the coming months!
