This decree, issued after consultation with the Conseil supérieur d'hygiène publique de France and the Académie nationale de médecine, which was last updated on June 23, 1993, is general in scope.

In addition to provisions applicable to foodstuffs, this decree includes numerous requirements for materials in contact with food, such as restrictions on the use of metals and purity criteria, good manufacturing practices, and the use of wrapping paper and coloring materials.


This decree applies to food packaging, as well as industrial and household equipment.
