Presentation

The Order of November 4, 1993 transposes European Union legislation on regenerated cellulose film. It specifies the categories of regenerated cellulose film concerned, and lists and restricts the use of substances or groups of substances that may be used in the manufacture of regenerated cellulose film, brought or intended to be brought into contact with foodstuffs, food products and beverages.

Substances other than those listed are authorized by derogation when used as colorants or adhesives, provided that there are no traces of migration of said substances in/on foodstuffs, food products and beverages detectable by a validated method.
.
This decree does not concern:

  • regenerated cellulose films where the side intended to come into contact with or in contact with foodstuffs, products and beverages is coated with varnish weighing more than 50 mg/dm2;

This order was modified by the order of October 21, 2004.
