Regulation (EC) no. 1895/2005 of November 18, 2005 on the use of certain epoxy derivatives in materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs
Presentation
Regulation (EC) no. 1895/2005 has been applicable since January 1, 2006, and concerns certain epoxy derivatives of BADGE (bis(2,3-epoxypropyl) ether of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane). It repeals directive 2002/16/EC. It contains the following provisions:
- migration limit for BADGE and its hydrolysates (9 mg/kg or 9mg/6dm² in the cases provided for in Article 7 of Directive No. 2002/72/EC) .
- migration limit for BADGE.HCL, BADGE.2HCL, BADGEHCL.H2O derivatives (1mg/k or 1mg/6dm² in cases provided for article 7 of directive n° 2002/72/EC)
- Prohibition of BFDGE [bis(2,3-epoxypropylenic) ethers of bis(hydroxyphenyl)methane] and NOGE [glycidyl novolac ethers].
This regulation applies to epoxy coatings on materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, with the exception of storage containers or tanks with a capacity of more than 10,000 liters or the piping that equips them or to which they are connected, coated with special coatings known as "high performance".
