Affiliated with the ACTIA (Association de Coordination Technique pour l'Industrie Agroalimentaire) network, the Réseau Mixte Technologique (RMT) "ProPack Food" set up in 2008 brings together, on a national level, players from research, training, development and technology transfer involved in the "packaging/process/food" theme. Through the organizations and experts associated, it links skills in the physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces, transport mechanisms, microbiology, toxicology, chemistry and agri-food processes, which are necessary to contribute to the integrated multidisciplinary approach to the relationships between packaging, process and food, essential for controlling the safety and quality of processed food products..
The ACTIA "Propack Food" RMT is steered, until 2019, by the Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d'Essais, which is recognized as an Institut Technique Agro-Industriel (ITAI). The new RMT ACTIA "Propack Food" is, from 2020, oriented towards "Sustainable packaging, circular economy and food waste" and co-piloted by LNE and CTCPA (Centre Technique de la Conservation des Produits Agricoles). Designing and developing sustainable packaging solutions, meeting the target of 100% recyclable, reusable, compostable packaging by 2025, functionalizing packaging to limit food waste while ensuring its safety and acceptance among consumers - these are the challenges set by the ACTIA "ProPack Food" RMT.
To meet these challenges, collective R&D programs are built around 3 themes:
- safety
- processes and functionalities
- user and consumer
