Presentation

These guidelines are intended for glass manufacturers who produce glass objerts that will be used as food contact materials. Special conditions apply to the flat glass sector. The main categories are hollow glassware (containers and tableware). Containers mainly comprise bottles (e.g. for wine, oil, etc.) and jars (e.g. for yoghurt, baby food, etc.). In most cases, bottles and jars are not brought into direct contact with food by glass manufacturers; they are normally shipped to food packers to be filled with the food product. Tableware consists mainly of items used for food consumption (plates, tumblers, stemware, etc.). Most glass containers and tableware are produced in a similar two-step process by pressing and blowing molten glass into molds.
