EFSA is organizing a webinar on January 14, 2025, to present its draft scientific opinion on the risks associated with the presence of styrene in plastic materials in food contact. The online event is aimed at stakeholders interested in the topic.
At the request of the European Commission, EFSA has conducted a reassessment of the risks associated with the presence of styrene in plastic materials in contact with food. The analysis focuses in particular on
- the genotoxicity of styrene after ingestion and its impact on human health;
- the safety of styrene below the specific migration limit (SML) set at 40 ppb.
A draft scientific opinion has been drawn up and is available for public consultation from December 10, 2024 to January 28, 2025. This webinar will be an opportunity to present the mandate, the methodology followed, the conclusions of the draft advice, and to guide participants through the consultation process.
Registrations are open until January 10, 2025 at 12:00 pm
Participants can also submit questions during registration, until January 3, 2025.
